KnowledgeTree Joins Tech Data Open Tech Program
KnowledgeTree’s document management software now available to Tech Data resellers
KnowledgeTree™, an Enterprise Content Management (ECM) provider focusing on affordable document
management software, today announced it joined Open Tech, a new channel for open source independent
software vendors (ISVs) to market and sell the company’s solutions to thousands of resellers nationwide.
Open Tech was established last fall by leading IT products distributor Tech Data Corporation to better
enable its reseller customers to capitalize on the rising demand for open source solutions.
As part of Open Tech, KnowledgeTree will gain access to Tech Data’s resellers across the country and to a
comprehensive channel marketing program. According to KnowledgeTree CEO, Daniel Chalef, “Being part of
Open Tech gives KnowledgeTree unprecedented visibility to the resellers who are focusing on affordable,
open source solutions for their customers. Tech Data is a well-respected distributor that we believe will open
a wide range of opportunities for us.”
Open Tech builds upon Tech Data’s extensive experience supporting open source leaders like Novell and
Red Hat. That experience includes helping these leading open source vendors grow their businesses
through the channel by recruiting new resellers to deploy their solutions to SMBs, large enterprises,
government agencies, educational institutions and healthcare providers.
“Interest in open source will continue to grow as resellers and end users become more aware of open source
solutions like KnowledgeTree’s document management software,” said Tech Data Vice President, Software
Product Marketing Stacy Nethercoat. “Through Open Tech, Tech Data will work closely with
KnowledgeTree to educate resellers and enable them to profitably deliver these solutions to their customers.”

KnowledgeTree and CAPSYS Announce Integration
CAPSYS enables web-based document capture for KnowledgeTree’s affordable document management
software
KnowledgeTree™, an Enterprise Content Management (ECM) provider focusing on affordable document
management software, and CAPSYS®, a leading provider of web-based document capture and capture
process management software, today announced the commercial availability of a release module that
integrates KnowledgeTree’s commercial SaaS and on-site editions with CAPSYS CAPTURE™.
The release module gives KnowledgeTree users seamless access to CAPSYS CAPTURE, a browser-based,
thin client application that requires no workstation software to be installed or maintained. The software also
includes a powerful workflow and design component that allows users to tailor and manage their capture
processes, without requiring programming or scripting, based on the document requirements specific to their
business. Organizations can quickly deploy powerful, advanced capture processing functionality like optical
character recognition, barcode recognition and forms recognition to streamline the process of characterizing
and indexing documents that are then efficiently released directly into the KnowledgeTree repository.
“More companies are embracing paperless initiatives using document capture and a centralized, searchable
repository. They’re also using Software as a Service applications to reduce IT costs and hassles. This
integration between CAPSYS CAPTURE and KnowledgeTree allows organizations to streamline their paper
reduction efforts without any additional investment in infrastructure,” said Daniel Chalef, CEO of
KnowledgeTree.
“With today’s distributed and mobile workforce, the value of Software as a Service is indisputable. With this
integration, now you can now easily capture documents of all types in one location and immediately access
them in another, eliminating the expense and time delay to courier documents from remote office locations to
a centralized location to be processed.” stated Greg Cooke, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for
CAPSYS.
The release module is available for US $1,595.

ECM Provider KnowledgeTree Releases Version 3.7 of Its Document
Management Software
KnowledgeTree®, an Enterprise Content Management (ECM) provider focusing on affordable document
management software that is easily installed and used by business professionals, today announced the
release of version 3.7 of its commercial edition, version 1.1 of its Microsoft® Office Add-in, and an alpha
release of KnowledgeTree Explorer CP (cross platform).
KnowledgeTree 3.7, deployed on Zend Server, features improved performance – tests indicate KnowledgeTree
runs up to 40 percent faster through the inclusion of Zend Optimizer. It also introduces the first iteration of
KnowledgeTree’s new Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) interface, which is compliant
with the 0.61 draft of the specification. By using Web services and Web 2.0 interfaces to enable rich
information to be shared across Internet protocols, CMIS enables greater interoperability among ECM systems.
“KnowledgeTree continues to offer a simple, easy to use document management system that does not strain IT
resources and is up and running in no time. By embracing open standards and other strategies that enable
seamless integration with widely accepted platforms, such as Microsoft IIS and Kofax Capture,
KnowledgeTree is answering the needs of the enterprise user,” said Daniel Chalef, CEO of KnowledgeTree.
Significant features and enhancements of the 3.7 release include:
Thumbnail and Instant View Functionality: New thumbnail and Instant View document preview functionality
allows users to see, search and scroll through documents before downloading them from the KnowledgeTree
repository.
Support for Microsoft IIS 6 & 7 on Windows 2003 & 2008 Server: The KnowledgeTree installer now enables
administrators to install to an existing Microsoft IIS Web Server. This native support benefits organizations that
have chosen to standardize on IIS.
Server-based, MSI, RPM and DEB installer packages: These allow easy installation and maintenance of the
stack using standard package management technologies on Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems.
Setup Wizard: The wizard automates installation, configuration and upgrades, making it easy for both
non-technical and experienced administrators, and completely removing the need for command line interaction.
Also featured in this release are updates to the Microsoft Office Add-in, which integrates KnowledgeTree
seamlessly with Microsoft Office 2007. KnowledgeTree has added a date field, a rich-text field and the ability
select multiple items to the document properties feature. Finally, an OpenSearch interface enables users to
share search results generated within KnowledgeTree with other applications and helps search engines and
users communicate requests and syndicate results.
KnowledgeTree Explorer CP is a cross-platform version of the popular desktop tool that allows drag and drop
functionality to the repository. With cross-platform capabilities, users can enjoy this feature from Linux and
Mac desktops. An alpha period for KnowledgeTree Explorer CP will give customers the opportunity to
test and comment on the offering.
“We continue to enhance KnowledgeTree so that it works the way enterprises do while meeting their evolving
business needs. With more than half of our existing customers deploying on Windows Server - IIS 6 and 7
support and the Microsoft Office Add-in have become important features as KnowledgeTree grows its
business,” said Evan Person, director of product management, KnowledgeTree.
KnowledgeTree offers commercial on-premise Plus and Premium subscriptions as well as a software as a
service offering, KnowledgeTreeLive. The company’s free community edition, which released version 3.7
on November 16, has been downloaded over 700,000 times from SourceForge, the world's largest open
source development web site.

KnowledgeTree and Red Eagle Consulting, Inc. Partner on Kofax
Capture Release Script
Integration enables documents to be delivered from Kofax Capture to the KnowledgeTree repository
KnowledgeTree, an Enterprise Content Management (ECM) provider focusing on affordable document
management software that is easily installed and used by business professionals, today announced a
partnership with systems integrator Red Eagle Consulting, Inc. Red Eagle, a Kofax Gold Certified reseller,
has developed a Kofax Capture Release Script that outputs scans to KnowledgeTree’s commercial
on-premise Plus and Premium subscriptions as well as its software as a service offering, KnowledgeTreeLive.
Kofax Capture automates business processes by capturing paper and electronic documents and forms in a
digital format, transforming that content into accurate data and then delivering the resulting information to an
organization’s business applications and repositories. The Kofax Release Script for KnowledgeTree makes it
possible for customers to use Kofax Capture to bulk scan documents and have them directly uploaded into
the KnowledgeTree repository via its Hot Folders feature, which automatically populates and stores the
document properties and workflow details in the KnowledgeTree repository. The release script enables Kofax
Capture to output documents in PDF or image format, along with XML files that contain document properties
(or metadata).
“Organizations in paper-intensive environments are seeking ways to reduce their paper burden, improve
efficiency and drive down business costs, and our solutions enable all of these,” said Jim Vickers, Senior
Vice President of OEM & Partner Strategy at Kofax. “Through our technology, large volumes of scanned
documents and information can be delivered into the KnowledgeTree platform quickly, seamlessly and
accurately.”
“This integration allows our customers to launch an entire automatic document process merely by scanning in
documents,” said Philip Arkcoll, product manager, KnowledgeTree. “KnowledgeTree Hot Folders and Kofax
Capture allow users to link the imaging workflow in Kofax with the document workflow in KnowledgeTree,
providing a powerful, yet easy-to-use tool for handling the processing of documents like, order forms and
applications.”
