MACta Roll Label Receives UL Recognition for EFI Jetrion UV Digital Label Ink
MACtac Roll Label secured Underwriter Laboratories (UL) Recognition for EFI Jetrion UV digital label inks used with its durable films, including:
FAD6914, BDE6914 and FCD6914.
When using UL Recognized MACtac products, converters now have pre-approved compliance that they can rely on when printing durable labels
digitally. Pre-approval means no new testing is required, only a paper transfer which can be submitted through an Internet portal, via email or
phone.
"With the shift toward digital printing, UL Recognition for printing our durable films digitally is a major advantage to converters," said Kim Hensley,
product manager, MACtac Roll Label. "It allows converters to complete short- and medium-run label jobs, which not only reduces costs but also
shortens the time needed to enter the durable goods labeling market."
MACtac durable films are ideal where high-performance adhesive labels are required to resist extreme heat and cold temperatures and chemical
exposure in applications such as nameplate, brand identification, caution, and warning labels, and compliance and hazard labels. The durable
films now pre-approved for digital printing with the EFI Jetrion Series UV inks include:
2-mil gloss top-coated white PET with a 3.2 SCK liner
2-mil gloss top-coated clear PET with a 3.2 SCK liner
2.6-mil matte top-coated white UV resistant BOPP with a 3.2 SCK liner
UL is an independent product safety testing and certification organization that has been testing products and writing standards for more than a
century, making it one of the most recognized conformity assessment providers in the world. UL's label adoption process ensures fast market
access by demonstrating that recognized labels have been evaluated to meet UL safety requirements. UL's Marking & Labeling Systems Program
covers labels (nameplates or markers) that display safety and warning information on UL certified components and products. Most products are
required to be permanently marked with specific safety-related information such as hazards, warnings, cautionary markings, installation instructions
and electrical ratings.

MACtac Supplies Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive Label for American Scientists Stamp
The U.S. Postal Service shares the legacy of four distinguished American scientists with the dedication of its latest FOREVER® stamps.
MACtac® supplied the pressure-sensitive adhesive label materials for 30 million, 44-cent first-class stamps issued.
The stamps celebrate American scientists’ commitment to understanding the fundamental process of nature and their contributions to the
advancement of science. The stamps were designed by art director Ethel Kessler and designer, typographer and photo illustrator Greg Berger.
They worked together to create a collage featuring a photograph, a signature and items such as equations and diagrams associated with each
scientist’s research.
“MACtac is happy to be a part of the celebration honoring American scientists,” said Allison Hazel, marketing manager, MACtac Printing Products.
“Science is important in our everyday lives, and the hard work of scientists often times goes unrecognized. By acknowledging their contributions,
we hope to inspire another generation of scientists to continue to fuel advances.”
The stamp issuance honors chemist Melvin Calvin; botanist Asa Gray; physicist Maria Goeppert Mayer; and biochemist Severo Ochoa. They were
recognized by Pritha Mehra, USPS vice president, mail entry and payment technology, at a special ceremony at the Science Museum of
Minnesota on June 16, 2011. The ceremony enabled the USPS to share the stories of each of the scientists. Their contributions and
achievements include the following:
Melvin Calvin was the first scientist to trace in detail the process of photosynthesis, and he conducted pioneering research on using plants as an
alternative energy source. He won the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1961.
Asa Gray, one of the first professional botanists in the United States, advanced the specialized field of plant geography and became the principal
American advocate of evolutionary theory in the mid-nineteenth century.
Maria Goeppert Mayer developed a theoretical model that helped explain the structure of the atomic nucleus; for this work she became one of
only two women, the other Marie Curie, to win a Nobel Prize in physics.
Severo Ochoa, a biochemist, was the first scientist to synthesize ribonucleic acid, and he competed in the race to decipher the genetic code.
Ochoa won the Nobel Prize in physiology of medicine in 1959.
The American Scientists stamps are the third in the American Scientist series issued by the USPS. The first series was issued in 2005 and
featured geneticist Barbara McClintock, thermodynamicist Josiah Willard Gibbs, mathematician John von Neumann and physicist Richard
Feynman. The second series was issued in 2008 and included physicist John Bardeen, biochemist Gerty Cori, astronomer Edwin Hubble and
structural chemist Linus Pauling.
The stamps celebrating American scientists are FOREVER stamps and are available as a pane of 20 stamps, a block of 10 stamps, or a block of
four stamps. Stamps may be purchased at local post offices, at the postal store website at www.usps.com/shop, or by calling 800-STAMP-24.
MACtac has been a qualified supplier for USPS stamps for more than seven years, providing materials for a number of pressure-sensitive stamps,
including Wedding Roses, Neon Celebrate!, Holiday Evergreens Forever, 2010-2011 Federal Duck Stamp, Nature of America: Hawaiian Rain
Forest, Winslow Homer, Sunday Funnies and Adopt a Shelter Pet.

MACtac Graphic Products Expands Application Nation with New Authorized Installer Program
Popular educational training program now offers certification status for graphics applications
MACtac® Graphic Products announces the latest enhancement to its popular Application Nation graphics education platform, the Application
Nation Authorized Installer program. The authorized program was created to provide certification for and visibility to professional installers who
adhere to industry standard processes and systems for vehicle and architectural applications.
“Graphic applications not only require personal expertise and ongoing education, but also a higher level of dedication to continual improvement
and acknowledgment for accreditation; this was one of the primary drivers behind the creation of the authorized installer program,” said Jason
Yard, marketing specialist, MACtac Graphic Products. “We are not selling a product with this program. We are building, through collaboration, a
network of professionals who uphold standards and participate in the system of checks and balances that can lead to the formalization of
processes for our entire industry.”
MACtac is a leader in application training, being one of the few pressure-sensitive manufacturers to offer dedicated resources for applications,
including the first to provide a dedicated Internet website, www.TheApplicationNation.com, to serve the installer community. MACtac is a sponsor
and partner of the Professional Decal Application Alliance (PDAA), which is the recognized certification body for graphics applications.
Much of the criteria set forth by the PDAA’s Master Certification process will be utilized as a basis for the Application Nation Authorized Installer
program, furthering the idea of a uniform approach to standardization for the industry. Currently there are 10 authorized installers in the Application
Nation Authorized Installer program, who will be featured on TheApplicationNation.com.
“As a leading supplier to the decorative graphics industry, MACtac is fortunate that through Application Nation we can provide an avenue to
promote the companies that have proven themselves successful in the ever-changing application landscape,” Yard added.
In 2007, MACtac took an industry-leading role in addressing all the factors involved in correctly applying, handling and removing pressure-
sensitive graphics to vehicles, walls, floors, buildings, glass and other surfaces, with the introduction of Application Nation. Since then, MACtac
has consistently launched additions to Application Nation, including traveling seminars, training videos, an online community and educational
website, and now the authorized installer program.
“Industry installers can greatly benefit from obtaining authorized status with MACtac because they can showcase value through manufacturer
support,” Yard said. “Additionally, the authorization demonstrates to their peers that they are a trusted, educated installer with a high sense of and
dedication.”

MACtac Roll Label Introduces MACScript 2 for the Prescription Labeling Market
New direct thermal labelstock designed for excellent printing, outstanding environmental resistance
Image fade on a label can cause serious problems for converters as well as end users, especially in the medical industry where the legibility of
patient data and medical care instructions is critical. A recognized leader in the prescription labeling market, MACtac® Roll Label has introduced
MACScript™ 2 (DDRX9502), a new direct thermal labelstock specifically designed to address prescription labeling challenges.
MACScript 2’s advanced thermal chemistry design virtually eliminates the need for a press applied UV overcoat, which can add cost, slow the
printing process, inhibit full image density and cause premature print head wear. The new direct thermal labelstock offers outstanding
environmental resistance, enabling it to withstand extreme exposure to heat, moisture, sunlight and certain chemicals typical to prescription
labeling such as oils, lotions, hand sanitizers and soaps. Outside lab endurance tests resulted in MACScript 2 receiving superior image density
ratings for the following testing categories: sustained heat and humidity, sunlight, bleaches, ammonias, soaps and detergents.
“Our second-generation prescription labeling solution is one of the most durable prescription labels currently available,” said Kathy Magyar,
marketing manager, MACtac Printing Products. “We continue to utilize internal and third-party testing to develop and improve upon our advanced
thermal chemistry to ensure our position as industry leaders in addressing the latest application challenges our converters face, especially in
regard to prescription labeling.”
Compatible with both high speed and low voltage direct thermal printers, MACScript 2 is a medium to high sensitivity top coated paper labelstock.
Its bright white face offers full image density for easy-to-read text and images.
It features MACtac’s ST-95 acrylic emulsion adhesive, which offers outstanding open time for short-term repositionability and excellent ultimate
adhesion and mandrel hold, ideal for most plastic prescription containers. A glove-friendly adhesive, ST-95 offers service temperature abilities
ranging from negative 75 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. A semi-bleached kraft liner designed for excellent die cutting, stripping and label dispensing
in roll-to-roll applications protects the adhesive.
New USPS Celebratory Stamp Commemorates Special Occasions
From birthdays to retirements, anniversaries and other special events, many occasions call for celebrations, and the United States Postal Service
(USPS) is helping to commemorate these joyous moments with the introduction of the Neon Celebrate! stamp. MACtac® supplied the pressure-
sensitive adhesive label materials for the first 100 million, 44-cent first-class stamps, available in a pane of 20 stamps.
A perfect match for greeting cards, invitations, gift-bearing envelopes and packages, the stamp features images of swirls, circles and dashes in
pink, blue, orange, yellow and green, modeled after a fireworks display on a summer evening. Each letter of the word “Celebrate” and the
exclamation point that is part of this stamp’s official title are highlighted in bright white light, vibrantly expressing excitement and happy wishes.
“This new stamp adds a special touch to celebratory packages, bringing smiles to recipients and acknowledging milestones achieved,” said
Allison Hazel, marketing manager, MACtac Printing Products. “MACtac feels honored to be part of these celebrations by supplying the label stock
for this special stamp that bears messages of joy, goodwill and happiness.”
The Neon Celebrate! stamp was unveiled in Cleveland, Ohio during the Garfield-Perry Stamp Club’s 121st Annual Exhibition and Bourse—one of
the largest stamp shows in the United States—that celebrates stamp collecting as a hobby.
The stamp was designed by Phil Jordan of Falls Church, Va., who was inspired by a visit to the Museum of Neon Art in Los Angeles. Jordan
worked with neon artist Michael Flechtner of Van Nuys, Calif., to create the Neon Celebrate! stamp.
Neon Celebrate! is issued as a Forever® stamp and may be purchased at local post offices, at the postal store website at usps.com/shop, or by
calling 800-STAMP-24.

Addressing the latest advances in digital press technology, MACtac® Printing Products has enhanced its digital label offering with a series of
qualified paper and synthetic film labelstocks for the Xeikon 3000 Series of digital label presses.
MACtac Printing Products partnered with Xeikon, a leader in digital color printing innovation, to ensure that label converters achieve optimal print
performance on the tested substrates. These substrates feature a broad range of facestock options paired with a variety of high-performance
adhesives, including MACtac’s patented non-ooze adhesive for clean, dry label edges for less cleanup and faster press runs.
“The digital market continues to show exceptional growth, and MACtac is keeping pace, growing its qualified digital substrates offering to address
the needs of the latest digital press technologies,” said Allison Hazel, marketing manager, MACtac Printing Products. “We are pleased to partner
with Xeikon to qualify several of our products specifically for Xeikon-based printing, ensuring converters that pairing product and press will result in
high quality, exceptionally printed labels.”
The Xeikon 3000 Series of digital label presses includes four models: Xeikon 3500, Xeikon 3300, Xeikon 3050 and Xeikon 3030. All the presses
deliver the same print quality and are divided into two maximum web widths: 13 inches (Xeikon 3300 and Xeikon 3030) and 20.3 inches (Xeikon
3500 and Xeikon 3050). Entry-level versions are designed to be field-upgraded to the wider and/or faster specifications as the user’s business
grows, without having to make any concessions in print quality. All models can print on an unrivaled range of substrates without pre-coat,
including various self-adhesive materials such as co-extruded films, polypropylene (BOPP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyester (PET), paperboards,
paper with weights ranging from 40 to 350 grams per square meter, and transparent and opaque foils.
“The Xeikon technology is a perfect fit for label applications due to its unparalleled productivity, image quality, flexibility and sustainability, all of
which enable label converters to be more profitable,” said Filip Weymans, business development manager, labels and packaging at Xeikon. “We
are excited about our partnership with MACtac as it further broadens the range of substrate options available for digitally printed labels.”

New USPS Stamps Commemorate Holiday Decorating Tradition
With the holiday season fast approaching, American homes will once again be adorned with traditional holiday evergreens. Carrying the seasonal

booklets of 20.
The new stamps feature foliage and cones of four different conifers: ponderosa pine, eastern red cedar, blue spruce and balsam fir, which will
grace billions of cards and packages expected to be delivered this holiday season.
“The holiday season is always an exciting time for families and friends and one of the busiest times for mailing cards, packages and other forms of
good cheer,” said Allison Hazel, marketing manager, MACtac Printing Products. “By supplying the label stock for this season’s stamps, MACtac
joins in the holiday celebrations and hopes these small touches of greenery bring smiles to households across the nation.”
