Xerox Phaser 7750 Series Printer

Proof caliber color with improved speed for power workgroups and design professionals.

By DPS Staff

In 2002, we reviewed the Xerox Phaser 7700, the company¹s first workgroup, single-pass, color laser printer. Two years later, the company introduced the newest addition to its laser printer family, the Phaser 7750. Still a dynamic unit for graphic artists, agencies, and design users, the 7750 now includes more features for demanding workgroups.

The 7750 lives up to the color control standards provided by its predecessor. The unit includes PANTONE-approved solid color simulations, Adobe PostScript device-independent color, CIE International color standards, and support for ICC, ICM, and Apple ColorSync color management systems. PhaserMatch 3.0 color management for custom profiles comes standard with the 7750/GX and DXF and is an optional extra on the 7750/B and 7750/DN. IT support is covered with the company¹s embedded CenterWare Web software. Print management and maintenance is a keystroke away when using a browser and the unit¹s IP address.

Hands On
Set up for the 7750 is a snap. The auto install feature gets you printing through your network after only a few mouse clicks. The unit can support tabloid, tabloid extra, and banner-sized paper. We ran a wide variety of media, including 67lb. vellum and 110lb. card stock, with no sacrifice to speed or quality.

The 7700 Phaser, once considered to have record-breaking speed with its 22-ppm output, now as the 7750 boasts a print speed of 35-ppm in both full color and black. Our tests confirmed output claims; we tested letter and tabloid prints in single  and duplex. Running 24lb., 75lb. felt, and 110lb card stock, we were able to substantiate Xerox¹s 35-ppm rate and 11 second first-page-out time.

The 7750 makes use of Xerox¹s new patented Emulsion Aggregation (EA) Higher Gloss toner, which incorporates smaller toner particles for improved image clarity, reduced toner buildup on prints and up to 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution.

Summary
Xerox continues to deliver better, faster, and less expensive digital printing solutions. The 7750 delivers another stunning performer to its
office and design line. The addition of EA toner, blazing print speed, color tools, and IT smart systems provide a compelling solution for the high-end tabloid printer user.

Options
The 7750 runs on a 715 MHz Power PC processor. With maximum upgrades to 1 GB of RAM, the 7750B has 256 MB of standard memory, the 7750DN has 384 MB, and the GX and DXF have 512 MB. The 7750GX has a 1,500 sheet lower tray deck, and the DXF comes with a 1,000-sheet finisher, stapler/stacker, and a 2,500-sheet high-capacity feeder. Other features include auto duplex printing with the 7750DN, collaltion, watermarks, and job completion notification. The units come with a one year warranty and Xerox Total Satisfaction Guarantee.
