AIIM/On Demand Preview

A peek at this year’s event.

The AIIM/ON DEMAND trade show promises to inform attendees of digital print and automated production alongside a showcase of content and information management tools and solutions—providing an entire look at the digital document. Questex Media Group expects over 375 exhibitors and approximately 25,000 attendees at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, in Philadelphia, PA, from March 30 to April 2, 2009.

AIIM

Contex, booth 1040, delivers scanners and capture solutions for exceptional productivity, scanning up to 360 D-size color documents per hour. In addition, Contex SD large format scanners provide an easy and affordable way to save time on in-house scanning activities.

The Crowley Company, booth 640, features the Mekel Technology Mach V roll-film scanner. Scanning an entire roll of 16/35mm film—up to 1,000 feet standard—in minutes, the MACH V utilizes custom Quantum software that simultaneously detects all images while scanning the entire reel of film, processing the data before it is sent to the hard drive. For paper management, Crowley introduces the Inotec Scamax high-volume document scanner series, which improves workflow productivity by eliminating the need for post processing on an external PC.

EMC, booth 825, is a premier sponsor of the 2009 AIIM Conference. At AIIM’s general session on Wednesday, April 1, 8:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Whitney Tidmarsh, CMO, content management and archiving division, EMC, joins a panel of IT experts. Focused on the CIO’s perspective, the panel discusses how organizations can address exploding user-generated content and increased need for information sharing. EMC’s booth demonstrates Documentum ECM solutions for businesses as well as ECM solutions for specific verticals.

Océ Business Services, booth 608, features the Océ MAX document performance management system. Océ MAX is a Web-based solution that enables clients to measure, benchmark, and continuously improve outsourced document activities such as print, copy, and mail center management. Océ MAX is available in two offerings. The first is designed for large organizations with multiple sites and services. Features include near real-time volume and performance reports; customizable, dynamic reports based on the client’s input; customizable dashboards base; and automated email alerts. The standard offering is available to organizations requiring basic performance reports and standardized metrics.

Optical Image Technology, booth 431, displays the DocFinity suite of high-performance ECM solutions to help businesses reduce paper, streamline processes, and improve productivity. The company’s business process management, imaging, and document management software integrates with line-of-business applications to maximize the use of existing business information. Built on cross-platform enterprise server technology and underwritten in Web services, DocFinity efficiently sends the correct information to the right person. Optical Image Technology features version ten of DocFinity.

Prinova, booth 1037, showcases its messagepoint software. As a true cross-channel TransPromo software solution, messagepoint makes it easy for business users to manage campaign and message content across all customer touch points without IT involvement. The software is designed for companies that create and deliver large volumes of personalized business documents through multiple channels. Prinova’s booth features examples of companies who have used messagepoint to marry design and development into documents that improve transactional statements, converting them into powerful messaging tools. Prinova also highlights its integrated approach, which brings touchpoint design and development together through all phases of the document project.

ReadSoft, booth 1424, showcases its less waste, less work, less worries campaign to show organizations how to realize benefits through highly automated imaging and workflow ERP system enhancements. The highlight of ReadSoft’s product showcase features the company’s new solutions Classify and Index, which automatically sort and classify all incoming documents while extracting key information. ReadSoft customer Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide presents a session titled BPM09: How Starwood Succeeds with P2P Automation, Wednesday, April 1, at 4:30 p.m.

Xerox, booth 2000, demonstrates DocuShare enterprise content management software, a electronic filing system that allows customers to store and share information. Xerox’s Extensible Interface Platform (EIP) is a software platform based on Web standards, that is displayed at various partner booths. EIP allows independent software vendors and developers to create customized document workflow applications for Xerox office multifunction products. Xerox shares best practices for document management in a presentation titled From HIPAA to Hurricanes: How One Healthcare System Prepares.

ON DEMAND

BCC Software, booth 2125, showcases Mail Manager Full Service and Mail Manager 2010. Mail Manager Full Service offers superior processing speeds, continuous watch folder technology, and unlimited technical support. BCC also offers unlimited NCOALink processing options to Mail Manager customers. Also on display, Mail Verifier Plus barcode quality tool, TrayMate 3 sack and tray tag printer, and Track N Trace mail tracking service.

Canon U.S.A., booth 1701, displays the latest additions to its imagePRESS line as well as a new print management software suite. The imagePRESS 1135/1125/1110 combines Canon’s monochrome printing technologies with the core architectural design of imagePRESS line. Also on display, the imagePRESS C1+, offering clear toner. Canon also shows uniFLOW Output Manager, a scalable solution that delivers a variety of print management functionality to a range of businesses.

Duplo, booth 2043, debuts several new digital print finishing solutions. The System 5000 Collating and Bookletmaking System inline with the new 2KT Two-Knife Trimmer provides head and foot trimming capabilities to completed booklets. The DC-645 Slitter/Cutter/Creaser with an inline folder option adds further application possibilities to the production color finisher. The PUR version of the fully automatic, single-clamp DPB-500 Perfect Binder makes it efficient for binding books printed on digital and coated stocks, while providing a high-pull strength ensuring that each page is firmly bound. Duplo is unveiling for the first time in the U.S. its DBM-350 Mid-Range Bookletmaker and Trimmer inline with the DC-445 Creaser.

EFI, booth 1943, showcases products from its robust portfolio, including the newest generation Fiery color print servers and software and the latest versions of the company’s proofing and print management information systems. In addition, the company displays the latest version of EFI Command WorkStation, which unlocks the powerful features of Fiery digital print servers by centralizing job management through an intuitive, flexible interface, and the Color Profiler Suite profiling solution. For print management, the company exhibits a range of robust solutions including EFI PrintSmith, EFI Pace, and EFI PrintFlow dynamic scheduling. EFI Fiery XF is also displayed.

GMC Software Technology, booth 1937, provides attendees with demonstrations of the latest release of its PrintNet Designer software. PrintNet Designer enables rapid creation and production of complex personalized documents for TransPromo, direct marketing, on demand publishing, customer correspondence, and transactional applications. With PrintNet Designer Version 5.3, users enjoy new feature advancements for consolidating print streams, creating Web content, extending color management, and managing quality control.

Hewlett-Packard (HP), booth 1400, demonstrates new technologies and solutions that bring an enhanced level of service and business insight to enterprise customers. These include solutions to help solve tedious manageability problems associated with imaging and printing environments and provide complete print management tools backed by an entire suite of services and support. HP also features additions to its enterprise device portfolio to meet the needs of document-intensive environments.

HP Exstream, booth 1400, offers enterprise document automation to enterprises and highlights its continued progress as a key element of HP’s document management strategy and software platform since its acquisition one year ago. As the necessity to reach the target customer by a cost-effective, productive means becomes increasingly important to maintain business growth, HP Exstream demonstrates how its document automation platform for enterprises establishes solid communications with customers.

InfoPrint Solutions Company, booth 1824, showcases its market-leading solutions and services. The company’s portfolio focuses on transforming clients’ businesses and optimizing multi-channel output, all with a strong emphasis on improving bottom lines. With these priorities in mind, InfoPrint showcases its TransPromo, automated document factory, process director, and print on demand solutions. Also on display, the InfoPrint ProC900, a high-speed digital color cut-sheet printer. Ideal for customers with monthly volumes of 50,000 to 240,000 pages. In addition, the InfoPrint 100, a compact laser continuous form printer, is also displayed.

interlinkONE, booth 2623, provides interactive demonstrations of its ilinkONE Version 8 software, which has the ability to build personalized landing pages, manages and measures clients’ marketing efforts, and creates integrated marketing campaigns. Along with its marketing software, interlinkONE introduces its Go-To-Market solutions.

Meadows Publishing Solutions, booth 2234, showcases Design Merge Pro, a powerful variable data printing (VDP) and data publishing software package that works directly within QuarkXPress or Adobe InDesign applications. With DesignMerge, users take any QuarkXPress or InDesign document and make it variable. Using the DesignMerge interface, users easily identify variable elements in an existing document, start the merge session, and produce VDP output.

NowDocs, booth 2411, announces the launch of its NowPrint 7.0, an extension of the company’s scalable software as a service (SaaS) architecture with a Web 2.0 user interface and integration with XMPie. NowPrint customers utilize XMPie’s composition engine through the NowPrint eCommerce interface. NowPrint 7.0 takes integrated authentication to the next level in a hosted environment, allowing in-plants to fully leverage the benefits of SaaS without giving up user access controls.

Pitney Bowes, booth 1415, highlights hardware, software, and service solutions for the mailstream. Products featured include the DI 950 tabletop inserter; the DM1100 digital mailing system; TrackMyMail.com; SmartMailer; and the AddressRight Printer. Also, the P/I Wizard, accelerating the production and delivery of high-value customer communication, with a focus on TransPromo, color, Intelligent Mail Barcode, and integrity capabilities. Pitney Bowes Business Insight showcases its Customer Communication Management (CCM), data quality, and location intelligence products. Featured solutions include the DOC1 suite of document composition tools; EngageOne Interactive for real-time, interactive documents; e2 Suite for document archive and Web self-service; Data Flow; Customer Data Quality Platform; and MAIL360.

Presstek, booth 1836, shows a broad array of environmentally friendly digital offset printing solutions. The Presstek 52DI and 34DI digital offset presses offer printers a profitable solution for meeting quick-turnaround demands for high-quality, color printing in runs of 250 to 20,000. The Presstek DI Press UV option converts the DI press into a waterless UV printing press. Presstek Workflow Solutions offer solutions for printers of any size, including Presstek Latitude, a highly automated PDF/JDF prepress workflow; Presstek Momentum Pro, a fully-integrated RIP and workflow solution; and Presstek PathWay, an affordable, Web-to-print solution that allows users to create, customize, order, print, and deliver in one streamlined operation.

PrintSoft, booth 2349, introduces MailDirect Express, which provides design-online capability and an all-PDF workflow. The solution enables enterprises and service providers to administer portals and institute brand and style control without the need for a desktop template design tool. PrintSoft also demonstrates its enterprise correspondence automation and TransPromo solutions, featuring PrintSoft WebDirect, which enables Web-based message management and collaboration workflows.

RISO, booth 2248, displays the HC5500 ComColor, which provides full color digital printing at speeds up to 120 pages per minute (ppm), for as little as three cents per page. The HC5500 prints on a variety of paper stocks and sizes—including envelopes and card stock. The printer harnesses two proprietary technology platforms from RISO—Forcejet and ComColor. RISO’s environmentally friendly digital duplicators help thousands of organizations become eco-friendly. RISO’s 600 dpi MZ990 prints at speeds of up to 150 ppm and features low energy consumption.

Rochester Software Associates, booth 2248, demonstrates the latest version of RSA’s WebCRD, including RSA’s new hosted ASP offering, starting at $1,000 a month. WebCRD now offers barcode scanning capabilities for production. Operators scan job coversheets to move through different stages of production. Changes are instantly reflected in WebCRD. WebCRD now includes basic pricing and variable data modules at no extra charge.

Rollem, booth 1543, showcases its Jetstream and Rollem Advantage. Rollem also offers information on direct mail finishing lines for both static and variable data print products. Rollem’s direct mail solution offers the ability to maintain the integrity of the mail. Zip code order is maintained from feeding to finishing to mail delivery trays, with no interruption in the mail sortation. The solution is also able to insert T or L Perforations inline for business reply cards or coupons virtually anywhere on the sheet.

Screen USA, booth 1925, showcases its Screen Truepress Jet520 inkjet web press, which functions as a high-quality, high-volume VDP system as well as a high-speed on demand printing system. It prints up to 420 feet of paper per minute at high image resolutions, in full color. The Truepress Jet520 incorporates a parallel-processing controller and advanced RIP technology. It accepts standard PDF and PostScript DTP data and cooperates with various variable front-end software. The Truepress Jet520 on display features a single printing engine with an inline Standard Hunkeler Gen6 paper handling system. The press demonstrates printing inside color book pages and direct mail materials.

Spiel Associates, Inc. booth 2425, showcases the new Sterling Digipunch automatic punch. The machine features a variable pile lift, which allows for punching up to 60,000 sheets per hour. A touch screen offers complete automatic set up and changeovers. Also on display is the Coilmaster Jr., an automatic, tabletop plastic coil binder, which allows for the speedy binding of books with margins of up to three-sixteenths of an inch, with round or oval holes.

Standard Finishing Systems, booth 1625, showcases a range of highly automated post press, paper handling, and inserting solutions. The new Standard Horizon BQ-270C Perfect Binder features a color touch screen, and an integrated digital caliper that measures and transfers thickness data to the binder. The BQ-270C begins setup for the next book while it completes binding the previous book, insuring minimal time loss due to set up for short binding runs. The Standard Hunkeler CS6-II Rotary Cutter with Chip-Out is shown as part of a combination solution producing full-bleed trimmed color self mailers and offset stacked book blocks. The UW6 unwinder and CS6-II cutter double-cut sheets from a pre-printed roll. The sheets then fold into direct mailers on the inline AFC-566H automated signature folder, or offset stacked as book blocks with full set separation for near-line perfect binding on the Standard Horizon BQ-470. The company also showcases its Standard KAS 465HS Inserter, which runs at speeds of up to 6,000 envelopes per hour.

Xerox, booth 2000, demonstrates real-world applications produced on Xerox technology to show visitors how to produce similar applications. Applications such as direct mail, photo specialty, and personalized collateral, coupled with workflow automation, show print providers how to increase the number of new business opportunities and better serve existing customers. The iGen4 Digital Production Press, 700 Digital Color Press, Nuvera 288 Digital Perfecting System, DocuColor 8000AP, and 8254E Wide Format Printer are displayed.

XMPie, booth 2316, demonstrates the latest version of XMPie PersonalEffect, RURL Wizard, and templates. PersonalEffect provides users the advantage of using one solution to create, deploy, and track one-to-one variable data, cross-media marketing campaigns. XMPie also demonstrates uDirect for desktop-based VDP, uStore for Web-to-print marketing portals, uImage for image personalization, uChart for dynamic charts and graphs, and uProduce Marketing Console for marketing campaign tracking and analytics. The company additionally showcases XMPie Marketplace, an online resource, which offers a library of creatively designed uImage templates that are available for purchase and download by uImage users.
