A new innovative scanner rental program, developed to help small companies, departments and enterprises address their short-term needs for medium and high volume document scanning, has been introduced by Visioneer.
The Visioneer Rental Program enables the rental of Xerox® DocuMate® scanners on a weekly or monthly basis and includes consumables, training and technical support with prices starting as little as under $100 a month. The program, developed in response to customer requests, offers a cost-effective alternative to purchasing office-grade hardware needed for short duration projects or temporary surges in scanning volume.
“Many organizations need affordable solutions when they get saddled with sudden high volumes of scanning for reasons of cost, deadlines or data security,” said Jim Tamo, senior VP of global sales and marketing, Visioneer. “By providing customers with an all-inclusive solution, they can control costs and timelines with greater confidence in document security. For the first time, we are enabling customers to rent premium-quality, production-class devices or desktop solutions for about the cost of a monthly phone bill and without any long-term commitment.”
The scanner rental program can support any size company or governmental agency; customer feedback indicates it will be extremely beneficial to organizations in the legal, finance services and healthcare markets.
“We bought a book of business, all on paper files that we didn’t have room to store but with information we had to have at hand, “ said Lisa Vercillo, director of Magenta Insurance Professionals, in London, Ontario, one of the first firms to use the new service. “We’re not a big company. Having the option for a flexible, short-term rental on a high-speed scanner was a huge savings. Visioneer configured our PCs remotely, setting up three to use one scanner, and provided additional phone support when needed. It all went very smoothly.”
According to Tamo, the Visioneer Rental Program pricing includes:

• Consumables per the scanner’s rated duty cycle
• Remote training and technical support by U.S.-based staff
• Visioneer’s best Advance Exchange Warranty, ensuring the fastest possible replacement in the unlikely event of equipment malfunction
• Scanner software and drivers to communicate with customers’ office environments
• Optional onsite training, configuration and support.
• The option to convert to a rent-to-own program
“Visioneer understands that companies need a way to solve mission critical scanning needs without purchasing new hardware or committing to a long-term lease,” Tamo said. “For example, one could rent multiple scanners for the cost of purchasing one, finish the job in a fraction of the time, and not keep equipment a day longer than needed.
