Key players in digital production offer security printing features with their flagship solutions. Here are examples of some of these tools that help prevent counterfeiting and tampering as well as promote authentication.
Canon
The ColorStream series from Canon is a range of high-speed, high-volume color inkjet presses that offer capabilities for security printing. These printers are designed to help users print sensitive documents like checks, legal documents, and sensitive business communications by integrating features like Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR), fugitive inks, and UV-fluorescent inks.
In addition, the varioPRINT 6000 MICR series TITAN from Canon offers a range of high-speed monochrome cutsheet presses with MICR toner for checks, legal documents, and direct mail.
The ColorStream series can utilize specialty inks beyond standard CMYK, including MICR, fugitive inks, and UV-fluorescent inks. These inks help in creating security features on printed documents, such as checks with MICR encoding or documents with tamper-evident features.
The ColorStream series can be integrated with security printing technologies and workflows..
The ColorStream series and varioPRINT 6000 MICR series TITAN can be used for printing various security documents, including checks, banknotes, stock certificates, and sensitive business communications.
HP
All HP Indigo presses support security printing for brands, with UV inks, accurate printing, Taggant inks, microtext, and a wide variety of integrated security partners such as Kurz/Scribos, BSecure, VerifyMe, ProQure, Crane, Digimarc, Alpvision, and Jura, which allow the production of secured packaging in high quality with authentication, consumer engagement, track and trace, and more.
Indigo has also invested in the governmental security printing segment with two Secure presses, which were developed together with Jura Security Printing—these are restricted presses designed for governments and high security PSPs and not sold outside of the high security market. These are the HP Indigo 6K Secure and 7K Secure Digital Presses.
Kodak
Kodak digital print solutions can put you at the forefront of security including Kodak Prinergy Workflow Solutions, Prosper Press Platform, and Prosper Imprinting Systems.
Komori
Komori’s newest digital print system is the J-throne 29, which uses UV LED Inkjet Technology at a production rate of 6,000 sheets per hour. Because of its variable data capability and highly accurate inkjet printing system it is well suited to many security measures such as sequential/serial numbering, small type, and other measures.
Kyocera
Kyocera offers a range of multifunction printers and printers that support secure printing. These products come equipped with several advanced features designed to protect sensitive information and prevent unauthorized access. One of the key highlights is the standard Secure Print Release functionality, which ensures that confidential documents are only retrieved by authorized users.
Additionally, Kyocera devices utilize IPSec protocols and TLS 1.2 secure communication encryption to safeguard data during transmission. These features collectively enhance the security and reliability of Kyocera’s security printing solutions, making them well-suited for modern organizational needs.
Nanografix
NanoCast instant Holography by Nanografix is a new, disruptive technology that can be used on any printing press. Flexographic printing in register to registered holograms, lithography, lenticulars, and moires.
NBi FlexPack
NBi FlexPack offers a cutting-edge solution using eBeam coating technology combined with a cast and cure system—one of the few units in the U.S. This process embeds the holographic image directly into the finish coating, making it a permanent part of the package rather than a separate component.
Unlike decals, these holograms cannot be removed. They’re digitally created, allowing for endless creative possibilities like patterns, logos, text—whatever your designers can imagine.
Landa Digital Printing
Landa Digital B1 presses are designed for high-speed and high-quality printing. Both the S11 and S11P sheetfed presses utilize Landa’s patented Nanography technology. The unique characteristics of Nanographic Printing, combined with a Fiery digital front end powering Landa’s high-resolution printing and superior color results, supports a wide range of printed security and brand protection features.
Landa collaborates with third-party companies that create anti-counterfeit marks and comprehensive track-and-trace systems. These solutions are verified to print effectively on Landa presses and can be accurately identified by reading devices.
Xeikon
Xeikon provides tailored solutions for the complex and evolving world of security printing. Whether you’re producing high-value documents, tax stamps, or brand protection features, Xeikon’s digital portfolio offers a secure, adaptable, and high-quality production platform.
Support for security printing is not only in the press technology, it is also based on its digital front end and the X-800 workflow that some of these features can enable, as well as in the toner itself for some security projects where spot colors were developed and only made available for a specific project. There’s also the possibility to add extra features inside the toner (taggants), which can only be detected with specific devices.
The recent development of Xeikon TITON toner, which was introduced two years ago, combines all the benefits of dry toner with the benefits of UV inkjet. This TITON toner enables new security and brand protection features. Together with its partner, KURZ, the company is able to support customers with technology where the metallization part can be printed in one pass with the other colors. This results in a perfect registration , combining variable elements in the foil with variable elements in the print, fine lines, small elements—even microtext, that can be printed in metallized or holographic foils.
Xerox
The current line of Xerox production presses and workplace multifunction printers all support different security printing capabilities and features.
Xerox offers several solutions specifically designed for security printing on its production presses through Xerox Specialty Imaging technology including Xerox MicroText Mark, GloosMark, Correlation Mark with Vector Pattern Technology, Fluorescent Mark, and Infrared Mark.
Xerox MicroText Mark creates characters smaller than one point, appearing as small dots to the naked eye but revealing the printed content with magnification. It provides an extra layer of protection for high-security documents such as invoices, coupons, and admission passes.
Xerox GlossMark is invisible when viewed directly and reveals glossy content when the printed page is tilted under light. It can be hidden in both text and image format, providing added security for tickets and general admission passes.
The Xerox Correlation Mark with Vector Pattern Technology displays as a color pattern visible to the naked eye, but additional information—such as the person’s name or credentials—can be revealed using a unique transparency “key.” This technology ensures the authenticity of documents like event tickets and invitations by creating a two-layer pattern for extra verification.
The Xerox Fluorescent Mark appears as a speckled colored box that is invisible under normal light but becomes visible under UV or black light. It is commonly used to protect sensitive documents like event passes and retail promotions.
The Xerox Infrared Mark is invisible to the naked eye. This mark reveals text or variable data when scanned with an infrared camera, offering additional document protection, especially for certificates, admission passes, and packaging.
